Kidney Failure
Creatinine
This
is a chemical in the blood that is secreted by the kidneys everyday.
If
the kidneys are not working, the creatinine will go up. This is normally
measured in a CMP (Complete Metabolic Profile) test.
The
problem with this is that one kidney may be completely damaged and half of the
other kidney is damaged before creatinine will go up.
This
will be a sign of kidney failure. This may eventually lead to dialysis and/or
kidney transplant.
It
is very important to have a record at home to record these results from different
physicians. You may want to acquire a medical journal that we make here in the
office. Another choice would be to have a notebook dedicated to your medical
records. You need to follow up with this yourself, and discuss the results with
your physicians.
You
may eventually need the help of a kidney specialist called a nephrologist.
